IMG_1078.JPG - Teddy bear cholla - A deceptively cuddly cactus that will sting. They get their name because they look fuzzy and cute, but millions of tiny hooked spines will get you if you get too close. The spines are an adaptation to the desert sun, they create shade for the cholla itself, reducing exposure to the sun. They reproduce in the same manner as the chain-fruit cholla, by breaking off joints and rooting them into the ground.
