The model of Jerusalem in the Second Temple Period recreates Jerusalem in the year 66 A.D. In that year the Great Revolt against the Romans erupted resulting in the destruction of the city and the Temple. The ancient city then was at its largest covering an are of 445 acres (more than twice the size of the Old City today). The model thus reflects Jerusalem at its peak, before it was all lost. The model was built at the initiative of a local hotelier, in memory of his son who died during the 1948 Israeli war. The Hebrew University of Jerusalem too four years to complete it. Seen here is the Southern view of the Old City with the Second Temple on the right of the picture Download
