| Bears were both seen and heard at the Whitney Portal campground where we camped the night prior to the hike. Overnight hikers on the trail are required to carry a bear resistant containers (BRC). Anything that looks or smells like food has to be placed in the BRC and stowed at a safe distance from the tent if you want to avoid unexpected bear visits at night |
